Stamped Concrete Designs
Popular patterns for textured concrete floors.
Stamped concrete patterns are decorations formed by imprinting a design on freshly laid concrete, before it dries, to improve the looks of the concrete surface.
There are several techniques for decorating a concrete surface the most common ones being concrete stamping, concrete stenciling, and decorative sawcutting.
Let’s discuss each of the above options.
Stamped Concrete
Also known as textured or imprinted concrete, stamped concrete is designed to replicate both the pattern and texture of brick, tile, wood, flagstone, and natural stone, among other patterns and textures.
Quite often, stamped concrete appears so real that many people will not even know that they are stepping on a concrete floor, patio, or driveway.
Here are the most popular stamped concrete designs: –
1. Brick Patterns
Running Bond
Often used for borders or decorative bands, running board is an old-style brick pattern in which staggered rectangles run parallel to each other.
It is mainly used in pool decks, patios, driveways, and sidewalks.
Running boards can be applied on both new and existing concrete. Stamping is the best option when working on new concrete, while stenciling is best for existing concrete.
Herringbone
A herringbone pattern is a design in which brick-sized rectangles are interchanged to form a continuous V-pattern.
This pattern draws the eye forward – making small spaces appear bigger. It is mostly used on walkways but can also be used for any type of paving.
Herringbone-stamped concrete is popular in English and Victorian homes.
2. Stone Patterns
Cobblestone
These stamped concrete patterns are mostly used on driveways and accents such as borders or bands that run through patios.
They can be applied through stamping or stenciling.
European Fan
European fan is a variant of cobblestone patterns. It happens when cobbles are set in a series of arches.
It is best created through stamping although stenciling can equally handle the task. European fan is best suited for homes with old-style designs.

Ashlar Slate
Ashlar slate is formed by stamping various sizes of rectangles and squares on a concrete surface to create a pattern that looks random.
The pattern is ideal for pool decks and patios.
While ashlar slate is best applied on new concrete, a stamped overlay can be applied on existing concrete to add some beautiful ashlar slate patterns.
Random Stone
These textured concrete patterns resemble irregular flagstones. Random stone is mainly stamped on pool decks, patios, walkways, and driveways.
It can be applied to both new and existing concrete.
3. Additional Pattern
Classic Wood Plank
Wood plank is a popular choice for those seeking to have a deck without having to deal with the upkeep burden.
Stamping is done to impart the shape and grain of wood boards onto the concrete surface.
Stenciled Concrete Patterns
Stenciled concrete is achieved by applying rolls of patterned paper with a special roller to achieve the desired look on a concrete surface.
The stencil, which is attached to freshly poured concrete, can be a great alternative to stamped concrete textures.
It is mostly used in conjunction with staining concrete or resurfacing.
Decorative Sawcuts
Decorative sawcuts are often hand-made lines arranged in attractive patterns.
These textured concrete patterns are mostly Diamonds and squares although complex designs can also be achieved.
