A detailed list of the 10 construction companies in the world.
The current ICON 200 Index presents a compilation of the largest construction companies in the world based on the 2022 revenues of individual contractors.
According to the report, the top 200 construction companies reported total sales of $2.028 trillion in 2022, a record figure compared to $1.968 trillion in 2021.
Chinese construction companies account for about 44% of the total sales, thanks to the strength of the Belt and Road Initiative around the world.
American contractors, who also enjoyed a strong year in 2022, account for about 13.7% of the total sales – up from 12.5% in 2021.
That being said, here are the world’s largest construction firms.
1. CSCEC | China
China State Construction & Engineering Co. is the largest construction company in the world, with record sales of $303 billion in 2022, up from $290 billion in 2021.
The company’s earnings stood at $220 billion in 2020.
The impressive earnings have been attributed to China’s domestic focus on public infrastructure as well as the Belt and Road Initiative.
Notable projects: Based in Beijing, China, CSCEC has worked on numerous construction projects in many parts of the world, including Daxing International Airport, the Great Mosque of Algiers, and the new administrative capital of Egypt.
2. China Railway Group | China
The China Railway Group is the second-biggest construction company, with sales of $171 billion in 2022, up from $166 billion in 2021.
The company’s earnings stood at $141.2 billion in 2020.
Notable projects: Based in Beijing, China, China Railway Group participates in many large-scale infrastructure projects overseas, especially in Southeast Asia and Africa.
3. China Railway Construction Corp. | China
Like its compatriots, China Railway Construction Corp. enjoyed a great 2022, with its sales rising to $162 billion, up from $157 billion in 2021.
The company’s earnings stood at $131.3 billion in 2020.
Notable projects: Based in Beijing, China, CRCC has built much of the transport infrastructure in China, including the renowned Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway.
4. CCCC | China
Retaining its fourth position in the list of the world’s biggest companies in construction, China Communications Construction Company recorded $105 billion in sales in 2021, a significant increase from $90.5 billion in 2020.
The company’s earnings stood at $80.7 billion in 2019.
Notable projects: Based in Xicheng District, Beijing, CCCC has undertaken several projects, including the Karnaphuli Tunnel, an underwater expressway tunnel in the port city of Chattogram, Bangladesh, beneath the River Karnaphuli.
5. MCC | China
The Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC) is the world’s fifth-largest builder, with sales of $88 billion in 2022, up from $77 billion in 2021.
The company reported sales of $57.7 billion in 2020.
Notable projects: Based in Beijing, China, MCC has been involved in the Saindak Copper-Gold Project in Pakistan, copper mining in Afghanistan, and nickel mining in Papua New Guinea.
6. VINCI | France
VINCI retained its sixth position in the ICON list of largest construction companies, with sales rising to $65 billion in 2022, from $58 billion in 2021.
The company’s earnings stood at $54.6 billion in 2020.
Notable projects: Based in Paris, France, VINCI has been involved in many construction projects around the world, including the Atlantic Bridge in Panama and Old Oak Common Station in London, whose completion is scheduled for 2030.

7. Bouygues Construction SA | France
French company Bouygues Construction SA retained its seventh position in the list with sales rising to $47 billion in 2022, up from $44 billion in 2021.
The company reported sales of $39.6 billion in 2020.
Notable projects: Based in Paris, France, Bouygues Construction has been involved in many construction projects in Europe, Africa, North America, and Asia.
These projects include the Singapore Sports Hub, the Port of Miami Tunnel, and the Henri Konan Bedie Bridge in Abidjan, among many others.
8. ACS Group | Spain
Spanish contractor ACS Group rose to position eight from nine, with sales of $35 billion in 2022, up from $32 billion in 2021.
The company’s earnings stood at $39.8 billion in 2020.
Notable projects: Based in Madrid, Spain, ACS Group has undertaken many projects, including the Portugues Dam in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project near Las Vegas, which was completed in 2016.
9. Shanghai Construction Group | China
The Shanghai Construction Group dropped to position nine from eight in the latest ranking with sales of $34 billion in 2022, up from $43 billion in 2021.
The company reported sales of $33.5 billion in 2020.

Notable projects: Based in Shanghai, China, Shanghai Construction Group was in 2014 awarded an $11 million contract for a sewage tunnelling project in Edmonton, Canada, becoming the first Chinese company to undertake tunnel drilling work in North America.
In the same year, the company was contracted by Tanzania to build 12,000 houses for the Tanzanian Army in a project financed by a $550 million loan from the Exim Bank of China.
10. Lennar | Florida
Lennar Corp. is a prominent home-building company serving the US housing market. Headquartered in Miami, Florida, the company operates multiple brands, including Lennar Homes, CalAtlantic Homes, and Eagle Home Mortgage.
Lennar Homes designs quality living spaces, while CalAtlantic Homes delivers luxury homes. Through Eagle Home Mortgage, Lennar Corp. offers financing solutions for homebuyers in the United States.
The company’s earnings stood at $33.7 billion in 2022.
