NHC Eyes Sh594m in Sale of Parking Slots at Ngara Homes
Buyers will be issued with ownership titles for the spaces.
The National Housing Corporation (NHC) has invited bids for the purchase of 699 parking spaces at the Park Road Affordable Housing Project in Ngara, Nairobi, sparking widespread anger among a section of residents.
In a public notice on Tuesday, the State company that manages the project said the bids – which must be submitted by March 8 – carry a reserve price of Sh850,000 per parking slot, which adds to Sh594 million for the entire car park.
The slots will be awarded to the highest bidder.
“NHC will award the contract to the successful tenderer(s) whose tender has been determined to be substantially responsive and has been determined to be the highest evaluated bid, subject to the reserve price,” the State company said.
In the event the successful bidder fails to pay for the awarded space within the specified period (90 days), NHC said that it shall notify and extend the offer to the person who had submitted the second-highest bid.
Buyers will be issued with ownership titles for their respective slots.
NHC has also invited bids for the leasing of 226 parking spaces on the open ground floor parking area at a reserve price of Sh3,000 a month per slot.

The planned sale has sparked anger among residents who now accuse the State of not disclosing to them that parking was excluded from their house purchase transactions.
One of the residents who sent a distress email to CK thinks the State company is misguided, adding that no prior communication had been made to that effect.
He said: “It was quite a shock when we saw the advert. The proposed idea has not gone down well with a majority of residents who view it as a scheme to milk more money from them”
Some homeowners have already reached out to the Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga, who has reportedly directed the NHC to withdraw the notice.
