A Chinese worker was early Friday killed during a robbery at a construction site on Ngong Road in Nairobi, a police source has said.

Kilimani divisional police commander Peter Katam said the male construction worker was hacked to death on Friday at dawn after refusing demands by a gang that had raided the site at Jamhuri prisons in Nairobi.

The gang of seven, according to Mr Katam, raided the site and demanded money.

“In the process, they beat up the workers who resisted, and the victim was one of those injured and succumbed to injuries in hospital,” said Mr Katam.

The thugs stole a laptop computer and an unknown amount of money from the site before escaping on foot.

Police have started an investigation, but no arrests have been made so far.
