Samburu Solar Project is a 10MW solar photovoltaic project located in Kwale County, about 400 km southeast of the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

The solar park, which will be delivered in a single phase, is expected to start supplying its power to the national grid by the end of the year.

Developers

The project is developed by frontier developer Gigawatt Global Ltd.

Power purchase agreement

The power generated from Samburu Solar Project will be sold to Kenya Power under a yet-to-be-unveiled power purchase agreement.

Funding details

The Samburu Solar Project is expected to cost $1.1 million.

In March 2019, InfraCo Africa, a subsidiary of the Private Infrastructure Development Group revealed it had signed loan deals with Gigawatt Global – pledging $2.2 million for construction of Samburu Solar and Transmara Solar projects.

Like Samburu Solar, Transmara Solar Project will cost $1.1 million.

The 10 MW solar PV project will be located in Narok, north of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, about 250 km west of Nairobi.

The solar park will also be completed in a single phase.
