How to Renew NCA Certificate
Easy steps to renew your annual practicing license
The National Construction Authority, founded under Act No. 41 of 2011, is a government agency that oversees all areas of the Kenyan construction industry – including registration of contractors to ensure that only competent builders are allowed to work in the country.
Section 15 of the NCA Act states that no builder shall conduct the business of a contractor in Kenya without an annual clearance certificate from the Authority.
Here is the procedure for NCA renewal of licence.
How to renew your NCA Certificate
1. Visit the NCA website: www.nca.go.ke
2. Click on the ‘Portals’ tab and then click on ‘Renewal of Contractors’, which will take you to the ‘Renewal of Practicing License’ – the NCA portal for licence renewal.
3. Log into your account with your ID/Passport Number and Password.
In case you do not have an account, Sign up by clicking on ‘Register’ and filling in your details.
4. Click on the ‘Renewals’ tab, then ‘Renewal of Practising Licence’.
Enter your registration number then click on ‘Load Licences’
Click on ‘Proceed’ and fill in the required information, upload all the required documents (see below), and then click Submit.

5. Once you submit the online renewal application, an invoice will be sent to your email address. The invoice will indicate the NCA renewal fees and the mode of payment.
A message will also be sent to the mobile number used during the registration.
Editor’s Note: The NCA renewal fees range between Sh2,500 and Sh30,000.
6. After making your payment, you will then be required to key in the bank slip or M-Pesa transaction number.
7. Once this step is completed and verified, the NCA Certificate and Annual Practicing License will be generated automatically into your online account.

Documents for NCA Certificate Renewal
- Academic certificates and testimonials for the technically qualified directors.
- CR12.
- Certified copy of the current business license.
- Certificate from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (if applying for Electrical Engineering).
- Copy of company registration certificate – Certificate of Registration/Certificate of Incorporation.
- 3 years audited accounts and other relevant financial information.
- Certified copies proving ownership of assets.
- KRA tax compliance certificate.
- Contractors Association membership certificate.
