Radiant Solar Power Station is a 40 MW plant located 13 km southeast of Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County, adjacent to Eldosol Solar Power Station. 

Project details

Radiant Solar Power Station includes 140,800 photovoltaic units and a medium voltage step-up transformer (400 V-22 kV) – generating 74,968,000 MWh/year.

The electricity will be evacuated through a substation near the plant, which is connected to a high-voltage transmission line that passes near the station.

Project owners

Radiant Solar Power Station is owned by a consortium of companies led by Danish firm DI Frontier Markets, as shown in the table below.

The proprietors also own Eldosol Solar Power Station.

Power purchase agreement

The power generated from the Radiant Solar Power Station will be sold to Kenya Power under a power purchase agreement at the rate of $0.12 per unit.

Funding details

The total cost of the project is estimated at €70 million.

In 2018, the European Investment Bank (EIB) approved a €30 million loan to finance the construction of the solar plant.

The proprietors were expected to raise €40 million.

A second loan amount was approved for Eldosol Solar Power Station, by the EIB, on similar terms. The project was scheduled for commissioning by the end of 2019.
