Spain-based Isolux Corsan has won a US$208.1 million tender for the construction of a 400kV electricity transmission line in Kenya.

The 428 km long transmission line will transmit electricity from the Lake Turkana wind power plant–  a 310MW wind farm that is being put up in Turkana.

Construction of the new high-voltage line will begin later this year and will take 23 months. When completed in 2013, the line will be connected to the national grid, which is being developed by the state-owned Kenya Electricity Transmission Company.

The transmission line will link the towns of Loyangalani, near Lake Turkana, and Suswa, near the capital Nairobi, which will mean that other geothermal plants situated along the route will be able to upload their output onto it in the future.
