State to Acquire Land for Syokimau-Katani Road
Affected individuals are asked to present their compensation claims.

The government intends to acquire different pieces of land in parts of the country in a bid to expand major road infrastructure, with a promise of compensation to affected landowners.
In Nairobi, Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has put out plans to upgrade Syokimau-Katani Road that leads onto congested Mombasa Road.
This redevelopment will see the road elevated to bitumen levels, significantly alleviating traffic congestion in the area. Three parcels of land covering 0.0921 hectares will be acquired from residents along the road under the project.
Residents impacted by the Syokimau-Katani Road project have been called upon to visit the assistant chief’s office in Syokimau sub-location on February 21, 2025, to initiate the compensation process.
In an official notice to the public, National Land Commission (NLC) Chairman Gershom Otachi emphasised the government’s intention to provide fair compensation to all.
“Every person interested in the affected land is required to deliver to the National Land Commission, on or before the day of the inquiry, a written claim for compensation,” the notice said.

Affected individuals must submit identification cards, land ownership documents, Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), and bank details. These documents can be presented either at Ardhi House in Nairobi or the assistant chief’s office.
Elsewhere, in Nyeri County, the government will acquire 85 parcels of land, covering a total of 1.7 hectares, for several road projects, including the Giakanja-Tetu Mission (D434) and Kagogi-Ihwa-Ihururu-B5 Junction Roads.
76 parcels of land, totalling 0.7 hectares, in Meru County will be acquired for the Kithurune-Kariene-Kaguma-Giaki Roads and Coca-Cola-Mpuri-Kithaku-Kateri Roads projects.
The affected residents should report to the Kariene Chief’s Office on April 1, 2025, and present their compensation claims.
