The US aggregates industry is witnessing a surge in construction sand and gravel production, according to a study by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
In 2021, American aggregate suppliers produced 943 million metric tons of aggregate valued at $9.76 billion, up from 925 million metric tons in 2020.
The construction aggregates industry, as defined by the USGS, includes companies engaged in mining and processing crushed stone and construction sand and gravel.
Approximately 4,500 mining companies are overseeing more than 9,000 operations across all 50 states in America.

During the review period, the top 10 states in construction and gravel production, ranked by tonnage from highest to lowest, were California, Texas, Minnesota, Arizona, Michigan, Utah, Washington, Colorado, Ohio, and New York.
These states collectively contributed approximately 54 percent of the national production of construction aggregates, amounting to 505 million metric tons.
