German equipment maker Liebherr has unveiled its first electric wheel loader as it seeks to capture a share of the burgeoning electric market for heavy machinery.

The L 507 E battery-electric wheel loader provides up to eight hours of runtime based on operating conditions while matching the performance of a diesel-powered Liebherr loader in the same size class, the company says.

The L 507 E battery-electric wheel loader produces zero local emissions, operates quietly, and retains its high working efficiency.

The wheel loader’s established stereo steering system guarantees minimal turning radius, enhancing its adaptability for various everyday tasks.

“Thanks to its alternative drive concept, the L 507 E operates with zero local emissions, low noise levels and is just as powerful as conventionally powered wheel loaders,” Liebherr said in a press release.

The high-voltage battery system custom-made for the L 507 E wheel loader ensures robust performance and effective charging. Designed for expanding the possibility of a second lithium-ion battery the machine is suitable for longer runtimes.

The charging time of the battery is about one and a half to three hours, depending on the power rating and onboard charging technology.

The energy generated during downhill movement and braking is reclaimed through recuperation, effectively boosting efficiency by recharging the battery.

Like the L 507 Stereo, the L 507 E boasts a maximum tipping load of 3.7 tonnes. However, boasting a maximum operating weight of 6.1 tonnes, it surpasses the standard model, which has a maximum operating weight of 5.8 tonnes.

It also features an electro-hydraulic pilot control, a fully automatic LIKUFIX quick-coupler system, an adjustable steering wheel and seat, a height-adjustable display with touch functionality, and stereo steering for enhanced stability.

Available optional features include a “Speeder” version that increases the speed from the standard 20 km/h to 30 km/h.
